Miscellaneous Information
Charles was born on 20 September 1922 at Halifax, Nova Scotia. His father, who died on 1944, was disabled, was born in Halifax and worked as a Foreman. His mother was born in Killigrews, Newfoundland. He attended the schools in Rockingham between 1929- 1939 and then worked as a clerk for Canadian National Railways, Nova Scotia, for three years. His sport interests were hockey and baseball and his hobby was model aircraft. |
Charles enlisted on 30 September 1942. After training he was posted to the U.K. and embarked for England from Canada on 16 July 1943, arriving at 3PRC on 23 July. He arrived at 24 OTU on 3 August 1943, 61 Base 4 November 1943, 1659 CU on 4 December 1943 and at 424 Squadron on 8 January 1944. Sadly Charles was to lose his life on 28 April 1944. |
